RSLC Endorses Insurrection Attendees After Giving Money to Insurrectionist Attorney

WASHINGTON — In its most recent round of Virginia candidate spotlights, the Republican State Leadership Committee endorsed two candidates who attended the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6th, Philip Hamilton and Maureen Brody. This comes after the RSLC gave money to Republican candidate Tim Anderson, who has become a go-to attorney for January 6th insurrectionists — including Virginia state Senator Amanda Chase

“Instead of condemning the lawmakers involved in the January 6th insurrection, Republicans are embracing them at every turn and actively funding their campaigns,” said Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee vice president of communications Gabrielle Chew. “January 6th continues to be one of the darkest days in the history of our nation, and all those involved should be held accountable. Republicans have clearly decided that their path to victory depends on appealing to their extremist fringe and debasing the democratic values this country was founded on. From top to bottom of the ballot, the Republican Party is once again welcoming people who tried to overthrow the government into their party with open arms.”

In total, twenty-one sitting Republican state legislators were present at the insurrection, including three from Virginia. There were also hundreds of lawmakers who spread misinformation about the election or signed on to efforts to overturn the results. The DLCC has called for the Virginia GOP to condemn the insurrectionist lawmakers in their caucus but the RSLC has actively endorsed their candidacies.
