WASHINGTON — In reaction to the Supreme Court of the United States decision to dismiss the challenge to Virginia’s fair district maps drawn by a lower court, Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post released the following statement:
“Today’s Supreme Court decision is a victory for democracy and for Democrats. Virginia Republicans were caught drawing racist maps to preserve their own power — that should never be allowed in a democracy.
“When we compete under fair maps, we win. The Supreme Court has helped pave the way for Virginia Democrats to flip the General Assembly.”
“We won’t just win because of fair maps. Democrats will win because the party of Trump is out of touch with Virginians. They have used their power to attack health care, restrict abortion rights and block common sense gun safety. Voters have had enough and this November we’re going to flip Virginia blue.”
