State Democrats Continue To Build Momentum With Newest Special Election Win
In Rhode Island, Senator-Elect Dawn Euer Carries Democrats to Victory in Special Election
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post congratulates Senator-elect Dawn Euer on her victory in the special election for Rhode Island Senate District 13. Euer, a community organizer who helped lead the successful campaign for marriage equality in Rhode Island, is a lawyer and owner of a successful law firm with a focus on supporting social entrepreneurs, non-profits, and small businesses. She bested three opponents, carrying the election with 58% of the vote.
“Despite Republicans’ best efforts to take this open seat, Senator-elect Euer’s message of building a strong economy, protecting the environment, and holding government accountable resonated with her future constituents,” said Post. “DLCC congratulates Senator-elect Euer on a hard fought campaign and is confident that her experience leading and protecting her community will benefit all Rhode Islanders as she fights for state progress in the Senate.”
This win is just the latest in a series of Democratic special election wins as DLCC lays the groundwork for substantial gains in 2017 and 2018 in statehouses across the country. Since Trump’s inauguration, Democrats have flipped four legislative seats and have overperformed in almost every legislative special election. State Democrats recently scored a critical victory in Iowa with Representative-elect Phil Miller’s win and have claimed additional victories in Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, New York, and elsewhere. DLCC looks forward to continuing our support of Democrats in Virginia, New Jersey, Washington, Florida, and beyond as they build on Democrats’ winning momentum heading into 2018 elections.
