Statement from DLCC Executive Director on Gill v. Whitford

 

 

 

WASHINGTON — Today Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) Executive Director Jessica Post issued this statement following the Supreme Court of the United States’ ruling in the case of Gill v. Whitford:

 

“The Supreme Court failed American voters today by refusing to condemn Wisconsin Republicans’ partisan gerrymandering. Later this year there will be nearly 800 seats on the ballot that will play a role in drawing district lines in 2021, and the court’s nondecision today has enabled Republicans to further ‘entrench themselves in power’ despite the will of the voters.

 

But the fight is not over – with the case going back to the District Court, we must continue to work to make sure Wisconsinites are empowered to choose their representatives, not the other way around.

 

That’s why it’s so important that every voter shows up in November to vote in the midterms. Democrats must stand united in our efforts to unrig Republican gerrymandered maps. We will continue to work with the National Democratic Redistricting Committee and all of our partners to do all we can to ensure fairer maps across the country. Just as we did last fall in Virginia, we are prepared to do everything it takes to flip seats and beat Republicans on their own unfair maps.”
