WASHINGTON — Today, extremist Republican insurrectionist Amanda Chase is holding a rally with Glenn Youngkin to promote Republican candidates in Chesterfield, VA. Glenn Youngkin is counting on candidates like Roxann Robinson, Mike Cherry, and Mark Earley Jr. to advance his agenda, including extreme abortion bans in the commonwealth. Chase has also said that if Republicans win the majority, she will attempt to pursue a sham election review in a state that Biden won by 10 points. The Virginia GOP is aligning itself with these far-right-wing candidates up and down the ballot.
“The Virginia GOP is the party of extremism and has no place representing Virginians,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. “Time and time again, Republican candidates for the House of Delegates have shown they will cater to the ring-wing fringe of their party. Their agenda, if they’re in the majority, is clear: they will pursue a taxpayer-funded sham election review, roll back voting rights, and ban abortion.”
It is no surprise that these candidates are aligning themselves with such radical politics. Here is a round-up of just some of the extreme stances candidates in the area have taken:
- Roxann Robinson (HD-27): Robinson has a history of extreme anti-abortion stances including voting for a personhood bill, which would ban all abortion and could ban commonly used birth control methods like IUDs or the pill. She also voted to defund Planned Parenthood and for an ultrasound bill that would require a vaginal ultrasound before an abortion, a practice some called “state-sponsored rape.”
- Mike Cherry (HD-66): Cherry has gone so far as to suggest that women who get abortions and doctors who provide them should be charged with murder, saying, “you’re hypocritical by charging a criminal for murder or manslaughter or whatever and not charging a doctor and a mother who would want to do the same thing.” Like Robinson, Cherry supports personhood legislation that defines life as beginning at conception, makes any abortion a crime and threatens commonly used birth control methods.
- Mark Earley Jr. (HD-68): Earley also believes that human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection. Earley, whose father was “the state legislature’s most aggressive abortion opponent,” campaigned on his “consistent” anti-choice positions before deleting them from his website.
