WASHINGTON — Since flipping the Virginia House and Senate in 2019, Democrats have made historic investments in education, ensuring that Virginia remains a leader in educating and preparing their future workforce. Today Virginia ranks twelfth in the nation for education. Electing Democrats again to the Virginia House of Delegates will protect and build upon this progress and ensure that all children in the commonwealth will have access to a quality education regardless of their zip code.
“While the Republican Party of Virginia attempts to politicize the classroom and turn parents against teachers, Democrats have been steadfast in prioritizing our children first,” said Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee executive director Heather Williams. “By passing science-based policies, Virginia Democrats paved the way for schools to reopen safely while not sacrificing the health and well-being of teachers and students. They’ve also made forward-looking investments from early education all the way up to college and gave teachers a much-deserved raise. With Democrats leading the Virginia House of Delegates, students, parents, and teachers will have loyal allies who put their needs and futures first.”
Virginia Democrats have supported students, parents, and teachers in the commonwealth by:
- Passing science-based policies that allowed for schools to re-open safely
- Funding vocational education and job-training in high schools and junior colleges to create a pipeline of qualified workers in high-demand fields like health care, manufacturing, and skilled trades
- Investing a historic amount in early childhood education
- Creating tuition-free community college programs for working-class families
- Raising teacher pay by five percent
- Passing nearly $50 million for schools to hire additional support staff such as counselors, nurses, and social workers
