Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and State Democrats to Make Announcement about 2019 Virginia Elections

WASHINGTON — Virginia Democrats will join together on Monday afternoon to make an announcement about their strategy for the 2019 Virginia elections.

 

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam will join Virginia Senate Democratic Leader Dick Saslaw, House Democratic Leader David Toscano, and Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post to discuss their shared commitment to turning Virginia blue.

 

The DLCC will also announce an early investment in the state to go toward working with state leaders to help recruit and train strong candidates.

 

In 2017, Democrats flipped 15 seats from red to blue in the House, putting them only two seats away in 2019 from regaining control of both the Virginia House of Delegates and the state Senate.

 

 

 

 

 

In 2018 Democrats won over 2,900 state legislative seats – gaining seven trifectas, eight majorities, six supermajorities, and shattering four Republican supermajorities. Nearly 1,200 of the Democrats elected to their state legislatures in 2018 were women, and more than 800 were candidates of color. The DLCC knows that when Democrats have the majority in chambers, policies are passed that help all Americans. As the only organization exclusively committed to electing Democrats to state legislatures all over the country and winning Democratic control of chambers, the DLCC has been working with state legislative leaders for over two decades to invest strategically in state programs and rebuild the Democratic Party from the ground up.
