The DLCC has now invested over $2M to protect and expand the one-seat Democratic majority in the Virginia House of Delegates and support the LG’s race
WASHINGTON— Today, the DLCC announced an investment of nearly $1.5 million to support the Virginia House Democratic Caucus and the Democratic nominee for Virginia Lieutenant Governor, Sen. Ghazala Hashmi. This comes alongside four additional Spotlight candidate race designations as Democrats’ momentum expands the landscape of opportunity to pick up seats in this battleground chamber.
The DLCC has worked hand-in-hand with Virginia Democrats to build a strong caucus program, and Democratic candidates are in their communities connecting with voters and harnessing grassroots energy heading into November.
The Washington Post: Virginia lieutenant governor race could be heating up as both sides aim resources
- The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is announcing a $1.5 million contribution aimed at Hashmi as well as the campaigns of four candidates running for the House of Delegates.
- The organization’s new tranche of funding is also aimed at four House races that Democrats, hoping for a blue wave election, believe they can add to a list of a dozen districts already identified as priority targets to flip and increase their 51-49 majority.
- The DLCC, which ordinarily focuses on legislative races, earlier this year highlighted the Virginia lieutenant governor race as a key election because the winner will preside over — and have the power to break ties in — the state Senate, where Democrats hold a 21-19 majority.
Virginia Mercury: DLCC invests another $1.5 million into Virginia state elections
- Williams will be in Richmond this coming Saturday for an in-person meet-and-greet with candidates in competitive districts in Central Virginia.
- Hashmi expressed gratitude in a statement to The Mercury for DLCC’s work to “support Democratic candidates up and down the ballot.”
- The new cash infusion is part of DLCC’s ongoing seven-figure investment in Virginia to help protect or expand Democrats’ majority. This year, all 100 seats in the House of Delegates are up for election, with Democrats running in every district.

- “All eyes should be on Virginia as November nears and Democrats fight to defend and expand our majority in the House of Delegates,” said Heather Williams, president of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee.
- “The DLCC is all hands on deck to fuel these winning campaigns through Election Day,” she said.
Virginia Scope: National Democrats drop big money in Virginia races
- “The DLCC’s new seven-figure investment and expansion of Spotlight candidates comes as Virginia Democrats have undeniable momentum – from outraising their opponents to a record-breaking ground game. As Republicans break promises and raise costs, state Democrats are connecting with voters and standing against the chaos coming out of DC. These elections couldn’t be more important, which is why the DLCC is all hands on deck to fuel these winning campaigns through Election Day.” [said DLCC President Heather Williams]
- The DLCC typically only works with legislative races, but they announced this summer that they are also helping Hashmi’s campaign — emphasizing the responsibility of the lieutenant governor to cast tie-breaking votes in the Senate — where Democrats have a slim majority.
