WASHINGTON — Today, Wisconsin lawmakers in the Assembly will vote on a bill to impose an extreme 14-week abortion ban through a binding voter referendum. Wisconsin’s previous abortion ban was blocked by the courts, and now the state GOP is pursuing a dangerous workaround to restrict fundamental freedoms. As long as they retain control of both chambers, Wisconsin Republicans are willing to sidestep any obstacle to implement dangerous abortion bans.
A reminder: Republicans have a majority in the Assembly and a one-seat supermajority in the Senate. Both chambers are on the ballot in 2024.
Democrat Gov. Evers has pledged to veto the bill, but Republicans in both chambers remain on offense and pose a serious threat to abortion rights. Electing Democrats to the state legislature is the only defense against the dangerous abortion bans that Wisconsin Republicans will continue to push with the power that their majority affords. The DLCC is committed to shifting the balance of power in the Wisconsin legislature by building Democratic power in the state.

Just like their GOP colleagues in states like Kansas and Ohio, Republicans in Wisconsin are not stopping their attacks and are willing to use any means possible to enact their dangerous and unpopular agenda. Until voted out, we will continue to see extreme attacks on abortion access from Republicans in Wisconsin.
