Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Hits $10 Million Raised This Cycle

WASHINGTON — After a record first quarter haul, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee and its affiliated organizations already raised $10 million so far this cycle, which is the fastest fundraising pace in the committee’s history during an off-year. After raising an unprecedented $51 million during the 2020 election cycle, the DLCC continues to match Republican legislative fundraising and shows continued financial strength heading into the midterm election cycle, alongside strong performances in state legislative special elections.

“We’re not taking anything for granted as we prepare to defend our majorities and win new ground in 2021 and 2022,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. “With Republicans across the country doubling down on attacks on our democracy, electing Democrats to state legislatures is more important than ever. We’re ready to defend our majority in Virginia this year and continue fighting for progress in the states next year.”

Earlier this year, the DLCC released a strategy memo outlining the playing field for this midterm election cycle. Strong fundraising will help state legislative Democrats lay the groundwork for successful campaigns to defend majorities this cycle and build on the strong progress won at this level of the ballot over the past four years.

Republicans’ pursuit of voter suppression bills and their effort to undermine and overturn the results of the presidential election underscores the critical importance of state legislative races over the next two years. The DLCC and state Democrats are preparing to take advantage of every opportunity to hold the GOP accountable and build power for Democrats in the states.
