WASHINGTON — Today, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee announced Alabama HD-10 Democratic candidate Marilyn Lands as the newest addition to our slate of Spotlight candidates this year. As a licensed counselor, Marilyn will fight for improving access to health care and mental health resources, as well as prioritizing our kids.

She is running for the Alabama House to represent Madison and southwest Madison County in a special election on March 26th. In 2022, Marilyn lost this toss-up district by single digits, and this year she’s bringing a winning strategy of prioritizing direct voter contact.

DLCC President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“The DLCC is thrilled to announce Marilyn Lands as our newest Spotlight candidate. This race is one of our strongest opportunities to flip a seat in the Alabama House, where Republicans have outsized influence due to extreme gerrymandering. Republicans have used their supermajorities in the state legislature to enact a severe abortion ban, undermine voting access, and attack LGBTQ+ rights. Their extreme MAGA agenda is out of touch with the needs of Madison and southwest Madison County. Marilyn has lived in her community for 30 years and has deep ties to the community as a counselor – she’s just the candidate to clinch a victory in this tough district. Special elections provide a critical opportunity to build Democratic power in states one seat at a time, and the DLCC stands ready to support Marilyn. ”

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning America’s state legislatures and building state infrastructure. Over the last decade, we have fought cycle-over-cycle to gain a dozen new legislative chamber majorities and we are leading the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
