DLCC Expands Its Target Map in Arizona

WASHINGTON — With fewer than 50 days until the election, Democrats’ path to victory in Arizona has been bolstered by strong fundraising and candidate recruitment, allowing them to invest in an additional target district. The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is adding two new Spotlight candidates to its lineup from LD-11, a former Republican stronghold where Democrats are now gaining ground.

“With just under two months until the election, Democrats have the momentum and the resources to play in more districts in Arizona,” said Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post. “Arizonans know failed GOP leadership put their lives at risk, hurt businesses, and decimated education funding. This is our first real chance to flip the Arizona legislature blue in over half a century, and with our excellent lineup of candidates, we’re going on offense to win the majority.”

Democrats need to gain two seats to flip the House and three seats to flip the Senate. Arizona is a top DLCC target and a key battleground up and down the ballot this year, and Democrats have the energy and momentum to turn the state blue.

Meet the DLCC’s new Spotlight candidates:

Arizonans deserve new leaders who will fight for their communities and put the needs of their constituents first. While in power, Arizona Republicans bungled their response to the pandemic, slashed the public education budget, and undermined health care protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Now, they’re running to the extreme right in an attempt to hold onto their increasingly fragile majority.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is the official Democratic organization dedicated to winning state legislative seats. Earlier this year, the DLCC unveiled its unprecedented $50 million campaign to “Flip Everything” this November. Since Trump’s election, the DLCC and state partners have flipped over 450 seats and 10 chambers from red to blue.
