WASHINGTON —  A leaked list of alleged Oath Keepers members revealed New Hampshire state Sen. Bob Giuda was a member of the organization. The Oath Keepers are a violent right-wing extremist group that has a long history of anti-government attacks, and whose recent involvement in the insurrection on January 6th has resulted in charges against at least 20 of its members. Though Giuda claims he severed ties with the group in 2014, the group was involved in anti-government activities well before that time. Giuda joins a growing number of sitting Republican lawmakers who were members of the Oath Keepers and other extremist groups.

“No sitting state legislator with ties to extremist groups can properly uphold their oath of office,” DLCC President Jessica Post said. “Giuda is the latest in a growing list of Republican lawmakers with ties to radical right-wing and violent anti-government movements. Republican state and party leadership have failed to curtail the growing influence of extreme GOP legislators, allowing violence and bigotry — values that should be antithetical to public service that are now standard in today’s Republican Party.”

The Oath Keepers were instrumental in plotting and carrying out the violent insurrection on January 6th. The DLCC has continued to document the Republican state legislators who were involved in the attack on the Capitol and hold other legislators with ties to extremist groups accountable – such as Alaska Rep. David Eastman, who is a lifetime member of the Oath Keepers, and Arizona Sen. Wendy Rogers, another Oath Keeper who has refused to denounce her affiliation with prominent white nationalists.
