DLCC Flips Senate Seat in Missouri

 

 

WASHINGTON — Tonight in Missouri, Senator-elect Lauren Arthur won the special election for Senate District 17, flipping the seat from red to blue in a district where Trump won by nearly five points in 2016. Her win marks 42 flips from red to blue since Trump was elected.

 

“Congratulations to Senator-elect Lauren Arthur on this incredible win tonight,” said DLCC Executive Director Jessica Post. “Missouri voters made their voices heard – they are ready to send someone to Jefferson City who will put people before politics and advocate for better access to affordable health care, investing in education, and growing the economy by supporting workers who deserve fair wages and good benefits. The DLCC looks forward to continuing our work with Missouri state Democrats to win more seats in November.”

 

Arthur was featured as one of the DLCC’s Spotlight Races. A Kansas City native, she was a middle school teacher and serves as a Regional Director for Urban Leaders Fellowship. She was first elected to the Missouri State House in 2014. The DLCC invested $25,000 in this special election and worked with the campaign to create a strategic field outreach program that included knocking on more than 51,000 doors and making more than 154,000 phone calls in only two months.
