Kevin Hertel

Sen. Kevin Hertel is a tireless advocate for Lake St. Clair shore communities, and this November he’s running for reelection to the Michigan Senate. During his time serving in the legislature, Kevin has focused on putting aside political games, finding common ground, and delivering solutions for his constituents. If Kevin wins reelection, he’s committed to keep fighting for Michigan’s seniors, students, and working families. 

Kevin was elected to the Michigan Senate in 2022, winning an incredibly competitive race, and now, with the support of the DLCC’s Target Races program, he’s ready to do his part to defend the chamber’s Democratic majority.

In 2022, Michigan Democrats flipped both chambers of the state legislature for the first time in over a decade, delivering a Democratic trifecta and passing historic legislation that improved the lives of working families across the state.

In 2024, Republicans narrowly retook the Michigan House — but Democrats maintained control of the Senate, keeping the path to a trifecta within reach.

With a one-seat Democratic majority in the Senate and a clear path to reclaim the House, strategic early investment in these races will determine whether Democrats can restore full control and continue delivering results.
