Mai Xiong came to the U.S. as a Hmong refugee and sees public service as the perfect way to give back to the community that welcomed her and her family. Now she's running for the Michigan House in a special election this April.
Mai Xiong came to the U.S. as a Hmong refugee whose family fled Laos after the Vietnam War. She’ll never forget the sacrifices her parents made to give her the chance to thrive in their adoptive country, and she sees public service as the perfect way to give back to the community that welcomed her and her family. Now she’s running in a special election for the Michigan House, vying for a seat that will solidify Democratic control of the chamber. Mai is excited to throw her efforts behind the wave of progress being made in the Great Lake State on issues including gun safety, the cost of health care, and protecting reproductive freedom.
