Republican opposition to protecting IVF in Congress proves once again that state legislatures are the best opportunity to protect reproductive freedoms, including access to IVF
WASHINGTON — As Republicans in Congress last night swiftly blocked the assurance of a right to IVF, it highlighted how essential electing Democrats in state legislatures will be in 2024 to protect IVF and reproductive rights across the country.
The actions of Senate Republicans prove one thing:
The best opportunity to protect reproductive rights, like access to IVF, lies solely in state legislatures.
Democrats in statehouses are already answering the call to defend against attacks on reproductive care. Earlier this week, Alabama Democrats moved to protect IVF, and anticipating attacks from MAGA Republicans, Georgia Democrats have proactively introduced legislation that also protects IVF and contraception before the GOP can push the landscape of freedoms even further backward in their state. These latest actions build on every Democratic majority taking steps to protect or expand reproductive rights since the fall of Roe.
Meanwhile, Republican extremism knows no bounds and MAGA state elected officials have been ramping up their attacks to destroy our fundamental freedoms. Electing Democrats to state legislatures across the country is once again the best way to truly defend abortion and reproductive rights.

We’ve seen fetal personhood legislation crop up in battleground states from Arizona to Georgia to North Carolina. The battle around fundamental freedoms continues to play out in the states – electing Democrats to state legislatures is the only path to stop the GOP’s crusade on essential health care.”
