WASHINGTON — The notorious Arizona Oath Keeper Sen. Wendy Rogers has taken over the Arizona Senate Elections Committee, one of the most important positions overseeing elections in this battleground state, despite being a vocal election denier. This has become a pattern as the GOP continues to assign election deniers to leadership positions or key committees in state legislatures across the country, displaying yet again that they have no regard for our democracy. At least 7 state legislative chambers are led by Republicans identified by the DLCC as Threats to Democracy. These people should be held accountable for their dangerous behavior, not given leadership positions.

“It seems that the more you undermine our democracy, the more you get promoted in the modern GOP,” said DLCC vice president of communications Gabrielle Chew. “Instead of holding election deniers and insurrectionists accountable, the GOP continues to welcome them with open arms while letting them drive the party’s priorities. As MAGA extremists continue to radicalize, they get further and further away from the needs of their constituents, and closer to conspiracy theories and supporting white supremacists.”

Here is a sample of the other Republican Threats to Democracy, including election deniers and insurrectionists, in leadership positions or on key committees across the country:

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee was the first and only entity committed to identifying, tracking, and condemning the hundreds of Republican state lawmakers who aided and abetted Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Its Threats to Democracy website is the most comprehensive account of state legislators and state legislative candidates who continue to normalize anti-democratic extremism and are complicit in the ongoing attack on our democracy.
