WASHINGTON – The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is congratulating Representative-Elect Tip McGuire on his victory in the Assembly District 64 special election and pledging to fight for fair elections in Wisconsin.

“While Governor Tony Evers and Wisconsin Democrats are working to expand healthcare and invest in education, the state’s right-wing legislature has gone off the rails. The Republicans in Madison are attacking a woman’s right to choose, blocking Medicaid expansion, and rigging elections,” said Jessica Post, executive director of the DLCC. “Voters elected Tip McGuire because they’re tired of Republican partisanship and obstruction. Tip is a dedicated public servant who will take on the real issues important to Wisconsin families.”

Assembly District 64 is one of just 710 state legislative districts in the country that intersect with a Pivot County — a county that voted for Donald Trump in 2016 after supporting Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012.

McGuire defeated Republican Mark Stalker by 22 points — over performing Hilary Clinton by 12 points, another sign of building Democratic momentum heading into 2019 and 2020.

“National disgrace Scott Walker and Wisconsin Republicans gerrymandered the maps and rigged the state’s elections — but we’re fighting back,” said Post. “The Wisconsin Assembly Democrats, under Leader Gordon Hintz, had a huge victory tonight and the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is committed to working with Wisconsin Democrats to flip the state legislature in 2020.
