WASHINGTON — Following Virginia Republican Delegate John McGuire’s announcement of his donation of more than $31,000 to Republican candidates across Virginia, the DLCC today called on all Republican candidates to reject this funding due to McGuire’s known participation in the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
“It’s disqualifying for any candidate for public office to accept funds from a known insurrectionist like Virginia Delegate John McGuire,” said Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post. “Upholding the U.S. Constitution is the most basic and fundamental responsibility of elected officials — and no Republican candidate can live up to that promise while also accepting a donation from someone who attacked our country and attempted to subvert the will of the voters. Every Republican candidate should return this donation immediately and disavow Delegate John McGuire.”
Republicans at all levels of the ballot have welcomed insurrectionists into their party. Earlier this year, the RSLC endorsed Virginia candidates who participated in the January 6th attack on our country and financially supported Republican candidate Tim Anderson (HD-83), who has represented multiple insurrectionists, including Senator Amanda Chase. Of the 21 sitting state legislators who attended the insurrection, Virginia had the most of any state.
