DLCC Celebrates Another Oklahoma Victory In Latest Legislative Special Election
Democratic Representative-elect Jacob Rosecrants Flips State House Seat in District Carried by Trump in 2016
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post congratulated Representative-elect Jacob Rosecrants on his victory in the special election for Oklahoma State House District 46. Rosecrants, a school teacher and featured DLCC Spotlight Race, championed a message of ensuring access to quality public education, long-term budget solutions, and criminal justice reform. The Democrat carried the election with over 60% of the vote, improving on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 electoral performance in the district by 19 points. Rosecrant’s victory brings the total number of seats picked up by state Democrats since the November election to six.
“Representative-elect Rosecrants fought hard to win this open Republican seat that Trump carried by 10 points in 2016. Progress, public education and long-term budget solutions resonated with Oklahoma voters, turning this once reliably-red seat blue,” said Post. “DLCC is excited by this win and will continue to support state Democrats as they serve as our first line of defense against Republicans’ extremist agenda. Representative-elect Rosecrants’ victory tonight marks the third seat in Oklahoma to flip from red to blue since President Trump took office. DLCC congratulates Oklahoma Democrats and their newest Representative on their great work.”
This victory is just the latest in a series of Democratic special election wins as DLCC lays the groundwork for substantial gains in 2017 and 2018 in statehouses across the country. After tonight’s wins in New Hampshire and Oklahoma, Democrats have successfully flipped six legislative seats from red to blue and overperformed in almost every legislative special election since Trump’s inauguration. State Democrats recently scored a critical victory in Iowa, Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York, and elsewhere. DLCC looks forward to continuing our support of Democrats in Virginia, New Jersey, Washington, Florida, and beyond as they build on Democrats’ winning momentum heading into 2018 elections.
