DLCC Celebrates Critical Win in Pennsylvania Special Election
Ahead of 2020 redistricting, Pennsylvania Democrats win special election for state House seat
WASHINGTON — Tonight Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post congratulated Pennsylvania Democrats and state Representative-elect Jeanne McNeill on an important victory in the special election for Pennsylvania House District 133. The seat became vacant after her late husband, Rep. Daniel McNeill, passed away. He was elected to represent the Lehigh County seat in 2013.
A retired special education teacher and member of the Pennsylvania chapter of NEA, Rep.-elect Jeanne McNeill has campaigned to continue her husband’s legacy of standing up for working families, ensuring all Pennsylvania children have access to a quality education, and bettering the lives of her neighbors and now constituents. Rep.-elect McNeill bested her Republican opponent winning 67.55% of the vote, topping Hillary Clinton’s 2016 performance in the district by nearly 15 points.
“Congratulations to Representative-elect Jeanne McNeill on her important victory tonight,” said Post. “Jeanne’s victory in HD133 means the DLCC and Pennsylvania Democrats can focus on expanding our list of new opportunities for increasing Democratic strength around the state in 2018 and beyond. With crucial 2020 redistricting on the horizon, Pennsylvania is a top target for the DLCC and our allies as we look to correct Republicans’ extreme gerrymandering in the state.”
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is the only organization exclusively committed to electing Democrats to state legislatures all over the country and winning Democratic control of chambers. For over two decades, the DLCC has been working with state legislative leaders to invest strategically in state programs, which has led to Democrats flipping 33 contested seats in 2017 alone. The DLCC is building on Democrats’ winning momentum and continues to lay the groundwork for substantial gains in 2018 in statehouses nationwide. State Democrats recently scored critical victories in Washington, Virginia, Oklahoma, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Florida, New York, New Hampshire, and elsewhere.
