DLCC Celebrates Sixth Special Election Victory in New Hampshire
Democratic State Representative-elect Casey Conley holds Strafford seat

WASHINGTON — Tonight DLCC Executive Director Jessica Post congratulated Representative-elect Casey Conley on his victory in the special election for the New Hampshire House Strafford-13 district, encompassing Dover’s Ward 1 and 2. Conley, a writer and editor in the maritime industry, was a first-time candidate whose passion for improving the lives of his fellow New Hampshirites won him the election with 78% of the vote – an 11-point improvement on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 performance in the district.

“A young and engaging Representative, Casey ran on the promise to fight for public education, secure a living wage, and promote the voices of his constituents, and his message resonated deeply with his Dover constituents” said Post. “The DLCC is proud of the investments we have made in support of New Hampshire Democrats over the past year. Ensuring candidates were able to hire staff, communicate effectively, and operate efficiently helped secure Democratic victories in six of the eight legislative special elections in New Hampshire – including flipping three deep-red seats from red to blue. We are confident that the structural investments made by the DLCC in 2017 will continue to help boost New Hampshire Democrats in 2018 and beyond.”

This victory is just the latest in a series of Democratic special election wins as the DLCC lays the groundwork for substantial gains in 2017 and 2018 in statehouses across the country. Democrats have successfully flipped eight legislative seats from red to blue and overperformed in the vast majority of legislative special elections since Trump’s inauguration.

State Democrats recently scored critical victories in Iowa, Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Florida, New York, New Hampshire, and elsewhere. The DLCC looks forward to continuing its support of Democrats in Virginia, New Jersey, Washington, and beyond as they build on Democrats’ winning momentum heading into the 2018 elections.
