WASHINGTON — In response to Republicans’ continued hopeless efforts to overturn last month’s election results, Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post released the following statement:

“It’s official: Republicans are the anti-democracy party. GOP state legislators across the country have spent the weeks following the election entertaining baseless conspiracy theories and floating outrageous plots to overturn the results of an election Trump clearly lost. It’s not going to work, but the damage they’ve done to our democracy is incalculable, and will likely reverberate for generations.

“But the saddest thing is that this is nothing new for the modern-day Republican Party. Next to tax cuts for the wealthy, attacks on the right to vote are the GOP’s specialty. They worked overtime to make it harder to vote, even during a pandemic, engaged in extreme partisan gerrymandering, and endorsed voter suppression schemes because they know they’re too unpopular to win.

“It’s a sad day for all Americans when one of our major political parties abandons our democracy, but it’s unfortunately apparent that the only democracy Republicans believe in is one where they always win. We know how this story ends: the GOP is going to put its voter suppression efforts into overdrive. We’re going to do everything in our power to stop Republicans from destroying what makes this nation great.”
