ELECTION DAY 2017: Critical Updates On Today’s Races
New field updates, important links, and what you need to know about today’s legislative races
WASHINGTON — Today is Election Day and the DLCC is set to bring you critical updates on state Democrats’ campaigns to win crucial seats, flip chambers, and expand Democratic strength in statehouses nationwide.
The DLCC recently released our 2017 Election Day Playbook which highlights all of the must-watch state legislative elections happening today in New Jersey, Virginia, Washington, and all over the country.
NEWS FROM THE GROUND:
- This weekend in Virginia, Democrats had more than 4,500 volunteers out knocking on over 180,000 doors in targeted state House districts. This election cycle, Virginia Democrats knocked on over 1 million doors and made over 500,000 calls to voters on behalf of the House of Delegates campaigns, setting a new record.
- In Washington, more than 150 volunteers came out to knock on over 7,000 doors for LD45 special election candidate Manka Dhingra who is running to flip the Washington Senate from Republican to Democratic control.
- In New Jersey, Democrats have a chance to expand their already record-setting majorities in both legislative chambers. The DLCC named 10 New Jersey Democrats as Spotlight Races to watch.
LINKS FOR ELECTION RESULTS:
- Virginia — polls are open 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- New Jersey — polls are open 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- Washington — Washington is an all-mail voting state and there is a time difference. First results are expected after 8 p.m. PT / 11 p.m. ET.
The DLCC hopes to be able to make the call on the Washington race tonight, but because Washington is a mail-in ballot state, it’s possible we won’t know the final results until Wednesday. We will work to keep you updated.
