NEW: GOP PA State Senator Ruled Democrat Out of Order For Calling January 6 An Insurrection

WASHINGTON — In shameful but entirely unsurprising news, another Republican is enabling extremism and downplaying the deadly insurrection. The Pennsylvania Senate’s new chair of its State Government Committee, Sen. Dush, ruled Democratic Sen. Cappelletti out of order for calling January 6 what it was: an insurrection. This is not the first time Sen. Dush has taken an extreme position – in 2020 he signed a letter asking the PA Congressional Delegation to reject Pennsylvania’s electoral votes on January 6. He also co-sponsored a resolution disputing the 2020 election results and called on the governor to vacate the certification of presidential electors in a blatant attempt to overturn the presidential election.

“Mere days after the second anniversary of the deadly insurrection, members of the Republican Party cannot move fast enough to double down on MAGA extremism at the expense of our democracy,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. “By giving the green light to MAGA lawmakers like Sen. Dush, the RSLC and PA GOP have shown voters exactly what version of America they stand for. Sen. Dush has no place in leadership, and we join Pennsylvania Democrats in continuing to hold the Republican Party accountable for their cowardly attempts to undermine democracy.”

The DLCC is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning America’s state legislatures. Last year, the DLCC defied the odds by not losing any state legislative majorities, flipping four key chambers, and creating four new Democratic trifectas – the best midterm year for the party in power since at least 1934. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and pass the policies that have the biggest impact on Americans’ day-to-day lives.
