RELEASE: 100 Days Out from Election Day, The Foundation For Democrats’ Success Is In The States

As Democrats rally at the top of the ticket, we must also prevent a MAGA takeover in the states.

WASHINGTON — Today marks 100 days out from Election Day and as campaign season is in full swing with renewed attention at the top of the ticket, Democrats must remain vigilant and cannot afford to overlook down ballot races. The DLCC has been sounding the alarm this summer with our ‘Summer of the States’ campaign, calling attention to the critical window in the summer months to make key investments and build campaign infrastructure and the foundation needed to boost Democrats’ chances in November. Unchecked MAGA control of state legislatures threatens our democracy and fundamental freedoms. In the final 100 days of state legislative campaigns, the best time to act is now.

The DLCC is laser-focused on supporting Democrats’ efforts in the states. For a fraction of what is spent on federal races, we can harness state-level power to keep Donald Trump out of the White House and stop his MAGA agenda in the states. 160 million Americans currently have their rights protected by Democratic majorities in state legislatures and the DLCC’s target map in 2024 will shape the future for nearly 70 million Americans.

“With 100 days left of state legislative campaigns that will decide the future of our freedoms, Democrats must act now to ensure state Democrats are put in the strongest position possible to protect against Trump’s MAGA allies in the states. The DLCC launched our ‘Summer of the States’ campaign to ensure that down ballot races have the resources they need to build a strong foundation for the Democratic party in the states. The states are the top line of defense against extreme attacks on our fundamental freedoms and democracy and Democrats cannot wait until November to ensure we are in a strong position. 

The DLCC is the official arm of the Democratic Party with the sole mission of building Democratic power in the states and setting the national agenda at the state level. Over the last decade, we have fought cycle-over-cycle to gain a dozen new legislative chamber majorities and we are leading the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
