RELEASE: Strong Candidate Recruitment in Minnesota Positions Democrats to Defend Democratic Majority in the House

Press Releases

Minnesota Democrats have recruited at least 130 candidates out of 134 House races, the latest strong recruitment number for state Democrats in key 2024 states

WASHINGTON — As the filing deadline for state legislative races in Minnesota comes to a close, Democratic candidate recruitment numbers in the House are strong and position Democrats to defend their majority in the chamber this November. Democrats have recruited candidates in at least 130 out of 134 House races, creating favorable odds for Democrats to continue protecting fundamental freedoms and moving the state forward. The victories of this impressive cohort of Democratic candidates with deep ties to their communities will help candidates up and down the ballot.

This milestone in Minnesota comes following a string of similar impressive recruitment numbers in other battleground states, showing the energy and momentum for state Democrats this year including in WisconsinMichigan, Arizona, and North Carolina.

Candidate recruitment is the essential foundation for success, which Democrats have been displaying since the DLCC flipped the Minnesota Senate in 2022 and secured a trifecta in the state for the first time in a decade. The Democratic Trifecta in Minnesota had a banner year of accomplishments in 2023, demonstrating the impact of these hard-won Democratic majorities. Just last month, Democratic majorities in Minnesota delivered another stunning victory by passing legislation to stop books from being removed from the shelves of school libraries. This progress is exactly what’s at stake in the 2024 legislative elections, and voters must return the Democratic trifecta to keep Minnesota a shining star of Democratic power and impact.

To build our victories against MAGA extremists and provide a boost to Democrats up and down the ballot, there’s never been a better time to support the DLCC. Visit us at to learn more.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee National Press Secretary Sam Paisley issued the following statement:

“Strong candidate recruitment in the Minnesota House is an important milestone as we fight to defend the Democratic majority this year. DFL legislators have made good on their promises and used their trifecta power to protect fundamental freedoms and deliver for their constituents. With strong candidates running in every corner of the state, the future looks bright for Minnesotans. Defending the Minnesota House is one of our top priorities in 2024, and the DLCC is taking nothing for granted as we fight to defend the Democratic majority and build on our historic progress.”

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning America’s state legislatures and building state infrastructure. Over the last decade, we have fought cycle-over-cycle to gain a dozen new legislative chamber majorities and we are leading the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
