In the first critical special elections of the new year, state Democrats deliver decisive wins.
WASHINGTON — DLCC Spotlight candidates JJ Singh and Del. Kannan Srinivasan just won their must-win special elections in the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate respectively, defending one-seat Democratic majorities in both chambers and passing a critical test for the Democratic firewall in the states. As Republicans take full control in Washington this month, Democratic majorities in state legislatures will be an important counterweight to the incoming Trump administration.
These races also foreshadow Virginia’s “off-year” elections in November when the full House of Delegates will be back on the ballot. Along with elevating these special election candidates, the DLCC is already laying the groundwork for the year with a six-figure investment announced last month to build infrastructure for the year ahead.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

The decisive victories of Delegate-elect Singh and Senator-elect Srinivasan reinforce our Democratic majorities in Virginia and keep our critical firewall of Democratic state legislatures strong.
