The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Announces Six-Figure Investment For The Pennsylvania Supreme Court Race

Press Releases

WASHINGTON — Today the DLCC is continuing to lead the fight to build state power for Democrats by announcing an investment of six figures in the critical 2023 race for a seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Alongside our in-state partners, the DLCC recognizes that this election will have long-term consequences, not just for the court, but for the state legislature as well.

Similar to the contest in Wisconsin earlier this year, the partisan makeup of this court is consequential for representation in the Pennsylvania General Assembly, voting rights, and other matters that will shape the future of the commonwealth. Electing Daniel McCaffery to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will ensure abortion rights and voting rights are protected and that the legislative redistricting process remains fair and balanced.

“The policies that have the biggest impact on our lives are increasingly being decided in the states,” said interim DLCC President Heather Williams. “Alongside state legislatures, we believe state supreme courts from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin are critically important in determining the future of our democracy. As we implement our long-term strategy to build Democratic power in the states, we’re investing accordingly.”

The DLCC has been at work in Pennsylvania all year long, defending our single-seat majority in the House in five special elections. Our Pennsylvania candidates have overperformed in their races, mirroring results we have seen across the country.

As we move closer to the November 7 election, we do so knowing that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court race has the potential to ensure a future of fundamental rights and fairness or to set us back decades on hard-fought-for liberties and freedom.

The DLCC is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning America’s state legislatures. Last year, the DLCC defied the odds by not losing any state legislative majorities, flipping four key chambers, and creating four new Democratic trifectas – the best midterm year for the party in power since at least 1934. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and pass the policies that have the biggest impact on Americans’ day-to-day lives.
